Couples Therapy
Individual therapy is a collaborative process between a therapist and a person in therapy (client). Common goals of therapy can be to inspire change or improve quality of life. Therapy can help with issues that are hard to face alone and help overcome obstacles to well-being. It can increase positive feelings and self-esteem. It's a process to learn new skills for handling difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and reaching goals. It's a therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware.

Couples therapy is a form of therapy that supports people in intimate relationship. The relationship itself is the focus of the sessions. The purpose of couples counselling is helping partners learn more about each other perspective and acquire healthy problem-solving skills.
I have a certification on EFT- Emotional Focused Therapy for couples and family, that helps to creates new, positive interactions between partners and strengthens their emotional bond.
Couple counselling is often short-term, though healing a relationship may take more time. Ultimately, couples therapy will continue for as long as the couple is committed to the therapy or until they reach the desirable outcome.
There is no conflict-free relationships, the key is to learn how to solve it.
Couples may seek relationship counselling for many different reasons, including:
power struggles, communication issues, substance abuse, sexual dissatisfaction,
financial issues, anger issues, infidelity, major life adjustments , frequent conflict or high stress levels, conflicting ideas on childrearing.
1 hour - A$150
Family Therapy
03
Family therapy is designed to address specific issues that affect the psychological health of the family. Family counselling aims to promote understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve the problems of one or more individuals.
Families can benefit from therapy when they experience any stressful event that may strain family relationships, such as financial hardship, divorce, or the death of a loved one. In addition, it can be effective in treating mental health concerns that impact the family as a whole, such as depression, substance abuse, chronic illness, and food issues, or everyday concerns, like communication problems, interpersonal conflict, or behavioral problems in children and adolescents.
This mode of therapy is solution-focused and short-term. The number of family members who attend each session may vary, depending on therapy goals.

ABOUT ME
My name is Priscila Lumertz; I am a Psychotherapist with more than 10 years of experience. I completed a Psychology degree through PUC-RS in Brazil (2012) and I am registered as a Counsellor in Australia with the Australian Counselling Association.
I have experience working with mental health as a psychologist at a hospital, in health community service, human resources settings and private practice in Brazil. I came to Australia in 2013 and studied for a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. I worked with children, parents and carers in the childcare industry for 7 years, which helped me to improve my skills in understanding children's development and different family dynamics. I also have certification in EFT: Emotional Focus Therapy for Individual, couples and family sessions (by Sue Johnson), and a certificate in CBT- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and CBT for anxiety (from Back Institute).
I am currently working on my private practice. I use evidence-based approaches, and my base approaches are Client-Centred Counselling (CCC), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
A little bit more about me: I am Brazilian from Porto Alegre and moved to Australia in 2013 with my husband, Argentinian. Together we had our daughter Olivia in Australia in 2020. A good mix of cultural diversity and languages at home.
I studied 1 year of Psychology in Spain, which helped me improve my Spanish, and I'm confident to offer sessions in Portuguese (mother tongue), English and Spanish.
I am passionate about my profession and a dedicated professional who follows the Australian Counselling Association code of ethics, participating in clinical supervision on a regular basis and doing ongoing professional development courses to improve my skills as a therapist. I believe Therapy is a collaborative process in which we achieve the desired goals when both parties dedicate themselves and work together.
